1. First Weekends at urban mining (Sept 1-4)

2. First Fridays at the Crossroads Art District (September 2)

Every first Friday of the month the KC Crossroads fills with galleries and exhibits of artists of all kinds! This experience offers an immersive view at the art of local, national and even international artists!

One of the highlights of the September First Friday is the Belger Arts Annual Artist in Resident Exhibition at Belger Crane Yard Studios

Enjoy local restaurants, breweries, food trucks and shops. This event is free to the community. Parking can be a challenge due to road closings for the event, so consider taking the complimentary KC Streetcar that runs through the area.

3. Kansas City Irish Fest (September 2-4)

The Kansas City Irish Fest is dedicated to promoting the culture, music, character and history of Ireland and of the Irish people who call Kansas City home. Kansas City Irish Fest offers attendees the chance to see some of the top Irish entertainment in the world and taste something delicous Irish cuisine.

This labor day weekend, be prepared for an experience like no other! Dedicated to the celebration and acceptance of Irish culture, music, and history, community members are invited to the Kansas City Irish Fest draws in crowds in the thousands!

Attendees will have the chance to see some of the top Irish entertainment in the world in addition to shops, beverages, foots, and activities embracing several facets of Irish culture as this festival celebrates its 20th year.

4. First Weekends in the West Bottoms (Sept 2-4)

September’s Warehouse Weekend theme is BBQ in the Bottoms and is a great opportunity to taste some original Kansas City BBQ. 

The West Bottoms transform into a treasure-hunting paradise during the first weekend of each month. Antique and vintage stores open their doors for those in search of furniture, home decor and the occasional have-to-have statement piece. 

During the weekend of festivities, the eclectic nature of the West Bottoms is on display from street entertainers, escape rooms, food trucks and more!

5. SantaCaliGon Days (September 2-5)

SantaCaliGon Festival

The first SantaCaliGon Days Festival was held in 1940 and the festival commemorates Independence as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California and Oregon Trails.

2022 marks the 50th celebration of the festival (as they didn’t start again until 1973). 

This event is held over Labor Day weekend and draws more than 300,000 people annually as it has become a well-known festival in the United States over the past 50 years.

Main Stage Headliners include musical acts Carl Worden, Stone Senate, Little Texas, Michelle Hawkins Last Kiss, Red Clay Strays and Lonestar. All shows are free to attend.

Enjoy browsing through booths of many local vendors offering crafts, food and more as well as a carnival with live entertainment and a 5k run.

6. Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival (September 2-4)

Embrace your artistic side with this free event! Street painting was created centuries ago as artists used the pavement as a medium to express themselves.

Artists of all ages and talents will be drawing throughout the streets of downtown Kansas City at the Chalk and Walk Festival. This is one of our favorite unique things to do in Kansas City this month and the event takes place Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 10am-3pm.

From street painters and performers to live entertainment and hands-on activities there’s something for everyone!

7. Luke Bryan Concert (September 8)

Country music lovers rejoice as Luke Bryan returns to Kansas City as part of his Raised Up Right Tour! Luke Bryan has been voted entertainer of the year five times, so don’t miss this amazing performance! Special guests include Riley Green and Mitchell Tenpenny. This event takes place Thursday, September 8th from 7-11pm. The T-Mobile Center is right across from Power and Light District, making PNL the best place to pregame for the event!

8. Art Westport (September 9-11)

This large visual art show exclusively features regional artists’ work and draws crowds of over 30,000 visitors.

Official jurors include Philipp Eirich, Sherry Leed, Linda Lighton, Lisbeth Blair Lurey and Sonié Joi Thompson-Ruffin.

Live entertainment will be offered each evening for patrons to enjoy as they walk through the different exhibits set up by each art vendor.

9. Greek Food Festival (September 9-11)

The annual Fall Family Festival allows families and their children the opportunity to be creative and explore their curiosities through several different outdoor events.

Stations include fruit and veggie tasting, garden crafts, bug exhibits, hand painting, yard games, scavenger hunts and more! This event hosted by Kansas City Community Gardens is a great way to get this kids outside this fall and help them learn about nature and plants.

13. 30th Annual Waldo Fall Festival (September 17)

The 30th Annual Waldo Fall Festival will take place on Saturday, September 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Shop, explore & have fun in Waldo. Kid activities include a bounce house, face painting, and more.

There will be fun vendor booths, food trucks, live music & entertainment.

14. Plaza Art Fair (September 23-25 )

Presented by Saint Luke’s in 2022, the Plaza Art Fair is a nationally recognized art event spanning across 9 blocks of the Country Club Plaza district. Over 200,000 guests gather in their love for art, live music and food and drinks from multiple Kansas City restaurants.

Join the community in the opportunity to appreciate local KC vendors and artists during this annual fair.

15. Shawn Mendes Concert (September 26)

Well-known pop singer Shawn Mendes will be performing in Kansas City as part of his Wonder World Tour! This event will take place at the T-Mobile Center at 7pm on September 26 right across from the Power and Light District which makes it a great location for patrons to enjoy great food and beverages right across the street before attending. Sing along to all your favorite songs by Shawn Mendes and special guest Tate McRae.

16. American Royal World Series of Barbecue (September 28-October 2)

This event is for BBQ lovers! Be a part of the world’s largest BBQ contest by attending the American Royal World Series of Barbecue! This event is the American Royal’s largest fundraiser of which funds go toward their mission of support youth and education in agriculture.

The contest is open to anyone that wants to show off their BBQ skills! The competition starts Wednesday, September 28th, but the party really starts on Friday night with live music, cold beers and amazing BBQ. This event is family-friendly so be sure to stop by and sample all the BBQ there is to offer!
