Snow Creek is Kansas City’s only ski resort and is officially open as of January 15th at 10 am for the season for its 2023/24 winter  season .

As Kansas City’s only ski resort, this is the best place for nearby skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. Missouri’s only other ski resort is Hidden Valley Ski Resort which I visited last season.

Our Visit to Snow Creek

alexa and todd at snow creek in missouri

We visited in February of 2022, near the end of their ski season. It’s a small mountain, but we found it to be a lot of fun. Even though it was a holiday weekend during our visit and lift tickets were sold out, we didn’t wait for more than 10-15 minutes for the chair lift.

We lived in California for many years before moving to Kansas City and my sister lives in Colorado. So, we have had our fair share of great skiing in these two states as well as Idaho and Utah.

I say this because Snow Creek is a fun opportunity to ski or snowboard close by, but don’t expect the vastness or vertical drops of Vail or Park City. With that said, there are only two opportunities for skiing in Missouri, and Snow Creek is a fun way to spend a day in the snow.

Time to Hit the Slopes

Once you have your gear, it’s time to scope out the different runs and make your way to your first lift.

Lift line

As I mentioned, the lift lines were not bad, even from the main lift in front of the lodge. As you make your way to the runs on the right or left side of the hill, the lines were even shorter.

We were surprised the ski slopes weren’t more crowded. Even on a sold-out day, there was plenty of room to enjoy the runs.

About the snow

Snow Creek has over 60 snowmaking machines with the ability to pump 3,000 gallons of water per minute, covering 100% of the terrain in as little as 72 hours.  As long as temps stay below freezing they make snow which means skiing in Missouri is possible more of the season! This is an easy escape to the snow from Kansas City to ski, snowboard or tube!

Night Skiing

Night skiing is Snow Creek’s ability to embrace the short snow season. It’s also great for people who can’t get away during the day, but want to spend time on the snow after work.

Experience the thrill of night skiing & snowboarding across the whole hill, take in a sunset, and carve the slopes in the moonlight!

Tip: If you plan to ski or board the ‘4 pm to close’ hours under the lights, purchase your lift tickets online in advance to save money!

When you arrive, if you have purchased online, you will need to visit the ticket windows to get your ticket printed. Tickets are also available for purchase onsite at the ticket window.
