The term ‘cider’ refers to a beverage made from milled apples fermented with yeast, quite like grape wines. And when done right, apple cider ranks up there with pumpkin pies and leaf piles when it comes to enjoying the fall season.
What’s interesting is that the entire family can enjoy the flavors of sweet apple cider, or if the adults want it to pack more of a punch, they can try the hard cider. Either way, visiting cider mills can be a tasty seasonal excursion for the whole family.
Visiting a cider mill in fall is a fun outing to enjoy one of autumn’s best fruits. As the weather cools down and apple trees ripen, it’s time to visit a cider mill.
What is a cider mill?
A cider mill is a mill that extracts juice from apples to make apple cider. Cider is never brewed; it is always fermented.
The difference between Apple Cider & Apple Juice
The main difference between apple cider and apple juice is filtration and fermentation. Apple cider is made from apples that are washed, cut, and ground into an “apple mash” similar to applesauce. On the other hand, apple juice undergoes filtration to remove pulp and is then pasteurized to extend the shelf life.
