Kansas City beer enthusiasts…… I’m talking to you! Are you looking for a unique experience and a chance to taste some of the best beer Missouri has to offer? Then, jump in the car and make the 15 minute drive to Independence and visit the 3 Trails Brewing Company.

This brewery has a great selection of craft beers, ranging from lagers and ales to IPAs, sours and stouts.

Todd at 3 Trails brewing Co

3 Trails Brewing is more than just a great brewery. It’s located in the historic Independence Square district, just down the street from the 1859 Independence Missouri Jail Museum, where infamous Frank James was incarcerated, as well as American Civil War Confederate guerrilla leader William Quantrill.

If you’re a history buff, the Truman Home and Truman Library are must-see attractions just a couple blocks away. For Americana fans, the National Frontier Trails Museum is not too far away and explores the westward expansion of the United States on the Oregon, Santa Fe and California trails.

And speaking of trails… 3 Trails Brewing takes its name from the historic Oregon, Santa Fe, and California trails that once passed through Independence. So, it’s fitting that the brewery offers a variety of beers that pay homage to these trails and the travelers who journeyed along them.

There are also nods to the region’s history and heritage throughout the brewery’s décor and ambiance.

3 Trails Brewing Location & Vibe

I recently visited 3 Trails Brewing and I had a wonderful time learning about this Independence brewery and trying a bunch of their beers as well as talking to co-founder Brian Clark and head brewer Jesse Rose about their Brewery.

Brian told me all about the history and showed us around. I can tell he is passionate about this place and making it fun experience by offering a wide assortment of beers, games, live music and more.

I will be honest, I didn’t know there was such good beer to be had in Independence.

At 3 Trails Brewing Company you can enjoy some amazing beers, meet the locals, play a few pinball games, come to play virtual Golf and see live musical performances.

As soon as you walk into this brewery, you’ll see a taproom with a stage to the right. They’ve got open mic nights every Wednesday and live music on the weekends (when it’s possible).

The taproom is cozy, the staff is friendly, and the beer is top-notch. At 3 Trails, they brew all the beer on-site, and they’re brewing close to 500 barrels a year. That’s a lot of beer, folks! They’ve got a wide range of offerings, but the most popular beer is their Light Lager.

With 19 taps, you’ll have plenty of flavorful options to choose from. And here’s the cool part about 3 Trails: their beer batches are small and have a fast turnover, so they constantly have new batches emerging.

When it comes to beer, I think 3 Trails brewery has it all figured out. They offer an good selection of brews ranging from classic styles such as pale ales and stouts, to more experimental sours and barrel-aged beers that will take your taste buds on a journey.

Plus, if you are in the mood for something a little different, they’ve partnered up with Polly’s Pop Sodas to offer some hard sodas that are wildly popular. This is especially so for anyone who might be gluten free and not able to partake in a beer. So, even if you’re not a beer drinker, you’ll find something to enjoy at 3 Trails.

Visiting 3 Trails Brewing Company

Let’s talk about what makes 3 Trails Brewing Company so awesome, and trust us, it’s beer plus music, games and a cool atmosphere.

Brian walked us through the whole place at 3 Trails and shared the story behind the walls of nostalgic artwork. It was very home grown but comfortable and fun to see.

Each beer tank get’s it’s own guitar player with custom artwork; a very cool idea.

From the artwork in the brewing area of all the famous guitarists to the labels on the cans, it’s a true creative effort here.

3 Trails has created a warm and welcoming environment that’s perfect for hanging out with friends and family. Whether you’re there for the live music or the food truck rallies, there’s always something going on. Plus, they even sell their own merch so you can represent the 3 Trails crew wherever you go.

3 Trails Brewing Process & Production

The brewing process at 3 Trails Brewing Company is a careful and time-intensive affair. From the selection of the highest quality ingredients to the meticulous brewing and aging process, every step is taken to ensure that their beers are of the highest quality.

Their range of brews undergo different brewing timelines. For instance, the brewing process for some of their beers typically takes between 30 to 45 days. However, the sours at 3 Trails are aged for an extended period; ranging from 16 months to 2 years, and allowing the flavors to develop and mature to perfection.

It’s not just about the ingredients in the process though – it’s also about the attention to detail. To ensure that their lagers are light and refreshing, 3 Trails filters them to remove the yeast and any other impurities, resulting in a clean and crisp taste that’s perfect for a hot summer day.

In short, the brewing process at 3 Trails Independence brewery is a labor of love, a combination of science, art, as Brian said it and passion that results in some of the most unique and delicious brews around. So, next time you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and try one of their amazing beers – you won’t be disappointed!
